John Nixon Honored by LeadingAge for “Profile in Positive Aging”

Giving back to the community is part of Lenbrook resident John Nixon’s DNA. This fall, LeadingAge Georgia recognized his enduring community service by naming him a 2013 Profiles in Positive Aging Image Award Honoree at its Annual Image Awards and Gala Luncheon.

Whether it was with the Carter Center’s “The Atlanta Project” formed in the ‘90s to address urban poverty or with the nonprofit TechBridge, where John served as acting chief financial officer, John’s been generous in sharing his professional expertise, time and talents for decades. A retired partner of Deloitte, John’s many beneficiaries of his service and gifts also include youth and education organizations such as the Atlanta Youth Academy, Pinecrest Academy, Hightower Elementary School and Cornell University.

John and his wife Lea moved to Lenbrook in November 2011, where he serves on the Resident Finance Committee and on the Executive Committee of the Residents’ Association. This past year he and Lea sponsored a young boy and his mother from the Republic of Georgia in their home at Lenbrook, while the child received much needed medical treatment from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

LeadingAge presents its Positive Aging awards each year “to honor seniors in Georgia who are inspiring others by their passionate engagement in life.” Proceeds from the luncheon benefit the Georgia Institute on Aging.
