Lenbrook Technology Ambassadors Help Fellow Residents Embrace K4 Community

With the roll-out of the K4Community app in 2019, Lenbrook officially became Georgia’s first smart senior living community. The intuitive, easy-to-use smart technology solution, designed by K4Connect and created specifically for residents, staff and operators of communities like Lenbrook, features several ways to stay in touch safely and securely. K4Connect can be downloaded to any smart device and has a simple, elegant interface.

Definition of community: a feeling of fellowship with others as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
When we first began to see the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was clear to all of us at Lenbrook that we would need to shift and adjust as a community – quickly, and with intention.

One of the few consistent things I look forward to during this turbulent time is that almost every day I hear from one or more of our residents who want to share their heartfelt appreciation for our associates. They, and I, are in awe of the work our associates are doing in spite of possible feelings of fear, anxiety and frustration. This horrible Coronavirus knows no boundaries and our residents are especially vulnerable. We all understand the potential impact that this virus could have on our community.

Four years ago when my wife Mary Ann and I moved to Lenbrook, little did I know that my medical background and work for the CDC would provide a valuable perspective to our new community. While I’m not an infectious disease doctor, I spent 30 years with the CDC as the Director of Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. Currently, I’m a faculty member at Emory University and I welcome the opportunity to assist with our community’s preparedness and response to the COVID-19 threat.

“It all started with this email that we received from one of our Lenbrook neighbors,” notes Richard Conway, President of Lenbrook’s Residents Association.

“I sent a check to Chris Keysor, Lenbrook President and CEO, and asked him to use it as a thank you gift to Lenbrook Associates who are taking such good care of us, sometimes even at a risk to themselves and their families and also to help a little with any financial needs. This made me feel good and I hope you will find out for yourself how good it feels!”

Right now, in the middle of the global pandemic, it is an honor for me to be on the frontline as part of Lenbrook’s COVID-19 Task Force. Together, we help design and implement the large and small policies and procedures that are put in place to keep our 500 residents and 250+ associates as safe as possible.

Today and every day, the health and safety of Lenbrook’s community is our first priority.

As VP of Lenbrook’s Health Services and member of our COVID-19 Task Force, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you what steps we are taking together as we face today’s healthcare crisis. Only when we work together as one team  – residents, family members, associates, vendors partners and management team – are we able to help prevent and mitigate the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

This year at Lenbrook, we will be having our second annual Blue Christmas Service. You may be asking: “And what might a Blue Christmas Service be?” I am glad you asked.  Stephen Covey once said: “Air is to the body what understanding is to the soul.”  For us to be spiritually well, we must be understood, and to be understood, our feelings (and I do mean all of them) need a serious hearing.

Casual, delicious, and charming are the best ways to describe The Brook -- Lenbrook’s newest dining venue. Formerly known as the Bistro, the completely redesigned venue is open for lunch from 11am – 2pm and for dinner from 5pm – 7:30pm. The informal menu features a variety of classic sandwiches, soups, salads, entrees, and sides -- some of which will change with the season and some will remain constant throughout the year.

Image for Future-Proofing Lenbrook

As I begin my tenure as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Lenbrook, I'm actively thinking about how to ensure Lenbrook continues to serve its residents well over the next 50 years.  50 years ago this summer, man landed on the moon, using less technology than we now have in our smartphones.  What will the world look like in 50 years, and how can we make sure that Lenbrook continues to thrive in that world?  My older daughter attends Westminster School, and last fall in the parent/teacher conference, the Dean of the middle school said that they are trying to prepare students for jobs that
