Wellness is at the Center of the Lenbrook Lifestyle

Wellness is at the Center of the Lenbrook Lifestyle

Wellness is a popular subject today, but what does it really mean? The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) defines wellness as the ability to understand, accept, and act upon our capacity to lead a purpose-filled and engaged life. That definition feels fitting since we strive to provide access and opportunity for residents to live their best, most engaged life.

In fact, wellness is part of the philosophy of Enrichment at Lenbrook. This goes beyond just offering activities and is instead a commitment to encourage Lenbrook Residents to actively participate in their daily life and to contribute to the lives of others in our community. Because when you are engaged in a community, your life feels full of meaning and purpose.

At the heart of wellness at Lenbrook is the 9,000 sq. Ft. Fitness Center that offers equipment, classes, and a resort-like indoor heated pool and hot tub. Credentialed fitness specialists monitor the machines and free weights and instruct fitness classes so they can guide and motivate residents to reach their fitness goals. With more than 20 group classes a week ranging from yoga to water aerobics, there is something for every fitness level! Also, the newly renovated massage room provides residents with the opportunity to relax and unwind.

With health services all under one roof, Lenbrook provides a full continuum of care. This means the Lenbrook Rehabilitation Center has continuity with the Fitness Center, so residents recovering from surgery or an injury have consistent support and a coordinated program for healing.

Lenbrook’s wellness programs are based on the ICAA’s 7 Dimensions of Wellness: emotional, intellectual, physical, vocational, social, spiritual, and environmental. So, wellness at Lenbrook doesn’t end when you leave the gym.

With ongoing lectures, excursions, and a fully stocked library, there are plenty of opportunities to learn and support intellectual wellness. Our LIVE team is staffed with social workers and trained advocates to help residents handle any life changes that come their way. They provide emotional support and help residents find the resources they need. The various programs like art and gardening allow Lenbrook Residents to continue to pursue their hobbies or even take on a new one. Residents also stay involved in the community by volunteering for various organizations.

Gracie Phillips, a Lenbrook Resident for more than 10 years says, “I think Lenbrook is a perfect place for me. I love all the amenities, the exercise classes, lectures, and the lifelong learning environment.”

The strong community at Lenbrook means that there are always people to support and encourage residents along the way. And social capital, the ties that build trust, connection, and participation, is proven to have a positive impact on cognitive health as well as physical health in aging adults. That’s why building community and providing engagement opportunities to residents is prioritized at Lenbrook.

“Lenbrook is a wonderful place to live. It has many things to keep all of us happy and healthy both in mind and body,” says Lenbrook Resident Babette Rothschild.
