Lenbrook Leadership Showcases Expansion Strategy and Success at National Conference

Lenbrook’s leadership was delighted to be among the featured presenters at this year’s LeadingAge annual meeting in Washington D.C. in October which drew thousands of non-profit organizations together to share best practices for providing excellence in senior living services.

Presenting for Lenbrook were President and CEO Becky Webster, Chief Financial Officer Chris Keysor and Marketing Vice President Felecia Sveda. Together, they shared Lenbrook’s story of completing a massive renovation during the nation’s 2008 major economic downturn.

Not only did Lenbrook successfully more than double its physical facilities during difficult market conditions, it emerged even stronger. Today, Lenbrook has achieved a new resident move-in rate nearly 65 percent greater than that of similar senior communities across the US, according to a recent Spectrum market research survey.

“We believe in focusing on what we can control and making incremental improvements consistently over time,” said Webster. “Incremental changes are much more likely to be sustained. We have ongoing performance improvement teams with goals and metrics. We listen to and respond to our residents; we provide choices and excellent service – all which contribute to sustainable financial strength of the Lenbrook organization.”

CFO Chris Keysor echoed Webster’s philosophy. “Sound strategic direction, aligning all stakeholders with a common goal, leveraging what we can control, measuring outcomes and quick self correction when market conditions shift are what keep us on solid ground,” he said. “We also adhere to a conservative financing structure that enabled us to pay off $57 million in debt and maintain over $12 million in cash reserves. These are the kind of robust financial indicators you want to see either as a current resident or prospective resident of Lenbrook’s continuing care retirement community,” Keysor explained.

Lenbrook’s been an active member of the LeadingAge association since 1983. “We share the same vision of empowering people to live as fully as possible at any age,” said Webster.

Rounding out the conference and providing much inspiration were three keynote speakers of this 50th Anniversary Celebrate Age conference: Dr. Maya Angelou, celebrated poet and best selling author; Mary Robinson, former first woman president of Ireland; and Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
