Lenbrook Resident John White Honored as Model of Positive Aging

“To whom much is given, much is expected” is the philosophy that has guided Lenbrook Resident John White from his days as a 10-year-old weekly newspaper columnist in Chipley, Georgia, through a lifetime of volunteering in Atlanta. His commitment to giving back to the community is one reason why the LeadingAge Georgia Center for Positive Aging recently recognized him as a model for positive aging.

He joins an impressive list of residents who are committed to living their best lives at Lenbrook and helping others. Since 2012, the Center has recognized a Lenbrook Resident at its annual Profiles in Positive Aging signature event. The gala celebrates older adults who live with purpose and meaning, serve others, are catalysts for well-being in their communities, embrace their passions, and inspire others to be their best selves as they age.

John has served others his whole life. Today, he serves as an elder and trustee at his church and as a committee member at the national level. He is on the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Board of Directors and co-chairs its Next Era Endowment campaign. He and his wife Ann Marie moved to Lenbrook in 2019. Within a year, he was elected president-elect of the Lenbrook Residents Association and then served as president.

Building on his early newspaper days, he studied History and Political Science at LaGrange College, was press secretary to Georgia Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Howard “Bo” Callaway in 1996, and has been a member of the Georgia Republican Party’s State Committee and Executive Committee for three decades. A charter member of the Atlanta Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, he was also a member of its Board of Governors. He also served for over 30 years as a board member of Atlanta Public Television and Radio, the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, and the USO World Board.

John worked at The Coca-Cola Company for 50 years, while continuing his volunteering. His roles included media, industry, and community relations, executive assistant to the president, senior consultant to the company, and secretary of the Board of Directors Management Development Committee.
