While “selfies” are especially popular with younger people, portrait photography is a remarkable way to catch a glimpse of a smile, glance or feeling -- if just for an instant -- and reveal the inner self of the portrait’s subject at a specific instance in their life.

That’s what Lenbrook’s Training and Development Specialist, Tammy Washington, hopes to share with the community’s associates and interns. “Can you imagine all that knowledge and understanding about life that’s within these walls?” asked Washington. “We’re hoping to unlock that vast treasure chest and offer the most incredible learning experiences.”

I didn't know what to expect when I started my internship with Lenbrook during my junior year at Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. But I made sure to come with an open mind. Very happily, I can report that I've gotten to experience so much compared to any of my previous jobs! 
 
Here's a look at what my day at Lenbrook is like and what I've enjoyed the most.

Thank you to everyone who made our debut performance of "pARTicipate in the ART of Life" such a wonderful celebration on Sept. 10 at The Woodruff Art Center. This was a first-of-its-kind experience for all of us -- bringing with it both a bit of stage jitters and a lot of joy.

Let’s face it. I’m an “artistic type” through and through; I love the arts. Fortunately, I’m in good company. So many of our Lenbrook residents share a passion for the arts, frequenting the theater, symphony and museum at The Woodruff Arts Center. I’m very excited that we will celebrate art and life together in a very special way at The Woodruff coming up on Sept. 10.

Maya Angelou said once: "I've learned that people will forget what you said; people will forget what you did; but, people will never forget how you made them feel." My intern experience at Lenbrook has been fascinating. Most of all, Lenbrook made me feel like I had another home.

Who are Lenbrook's VICTORS? They are our residents who sometimes feel isolated or lonely, yet have a desire to contribute to others. These feelings can be common occurrences in any setting.
 
Initially, I would direct them to one or more of our regularly scheduled programs, events, activities or excursions. It wasn’t long before I realized that well-planned, parallel programming would offer these individuals an alternative means of fulfilling their particular needs.

My husband Larry and I moved into Lenbrook this spring, and we are amazed at how fast Lenbrook has become “our home.” I’ve always been about “finding the best fit” because I have spent 30+ years helping high school students find their best college fit. (Missy was the head of College Counseling at Woodward Academy in Atlanta for 25 years.)
