Image for My Vision for Lenbrook: Full Steam Ahead
In the past year, our Residents Association has been able to propel a number of exciting new developments at Lenbrook, and I have been honored to serve as its president. Now, as we are getting ready to celebrate Lenbrook’s 35th anniversary later this summer, I am honored to introduce Joyce Stevens as the new president of Lenbrook’s Residents Association.

As a chaplain, I have the privilege of interacting with our residents from varied religious groups and denominations within our Lenbrook Community, as well as those in the community with no set religious affiliation.

I’m a firm believer that everyone needs some type of community in order to thrive -- a belief that's supported by study after study. One of the blessings of a community as large and diverse as Lenbrook is that residents have a vast selection of friends and neighbors available to connect with and create community!

Lenbrook Programs Offers Top Speakers, Enrichment Year-round

At Lenbrook, the premier Life Plan Community in Atlanta’s beautiful Buckhead neighborhood, many social and cultural opportunities take place year-round, and they are planned primarily by the residents who help select and coordinate the wide variety of activities.

Events range from jazz-in-the-garden, cookouts, artistic and musical performances, to holiday celebrations, newcomer socials, and a choice of many superb and fascinating speakers.

Image for The Cornbread Conundrum

Serving cornbread in a senior living community can be a dicey proposition. Residents from northern states have a preference for a sweeter cornbread. Residents from southern states have a taste for a more savory cornbread. Personal preferences can run even deeper, even down to whether or not whole corn kernels should be present in the bread, whether it should be prepared in a cast iron skillet or hotel pan, and how crumbly the final product should be. How do we find the right recipe to satisfy the cornbread conundrum?

I didn't know what to expect when I started my internship with Lenbrook during my junior year at Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. But I made sure to come with an open mind. Very happily, I can report that I've gotten to experience so much compared to any of my previous jobs!

Here's a look at what my day at Lenbrook is like and what I've enjoyed the most.

My Work Rounds
Image for Creating Your "Third Act"
Lenbrook's front entrance courtyard proudly sported a real snowman for a few days this winter when snow blanketed Atlanta. One of our residents felt inspired to build it, so he did. Once complete, he encouraged others to do the same, putting up a sign which read: "Feel free to add to the snowman. Or build your own. But Whatever You Do, Don't Act Your Age!"

My name is Ruth Smith but my friends and neighbors also know me as "Rocky's Mom." Rocky is my 1-year-old French bulldog (a "Frenchie"). I love sharing him with our community and seeing all the smiles he generates. Rocky assumes everybody loves him as much as I do. But just in case, I always ask before entering the elevator, "Do you mind if we join you?" Lenbrook welcomed me and my first "Frenchie," Liam, here five years ago.

Image for Life at Lenbrook is a Full-Time Job!

Last summer I moved to Lenbrook primarily because I wanted to help make things easier for my children when and if I need additional care. But now that I'm here, I often wonder why I didn't make the move sooner! Atlanta's been my home since 1956, so in addition to my new friends at Lenbrook, I have all of my "old" friends and outside activities too. I have to keep a calendar to blend my Lenbrook life and my "outside life."
